January 11

3) At the reading of the last protocol it was reported regarding the proposed bridge building that it was decided in the Elders’ Conference to call together a committee for the consideration of the building, that in this committee on the 28th of December of last year the opinion was to postpone the building of the bridge at the present time,–that, however, in the Gemein Rath last Sunday, the 8th of this month, a written memorandum was submitted, in which it was asked as a general wish that the Brethren of the Gemein Rath have a special session for the consideration of the bridge building, and that following [symbol for Monday] the 22nd of this month could be set, which was also decided.

2) The protocol of the Meeting of the Brethren of the Gemein Rath for the consideration of the bridge building was read and [it was] reported that this bridge project has the approbation of the Gemein Direction, and although Br. Ettwein is not in favor of it, he explained to Br. Klingsohr that he would lay no barriers in the path [of the project].–It was resolved to draft a petition as soon as possible, and to send it via Br. Eyerly to Philadelphia. In addition, several suggestions for Articles of Association were gone through, and should now be put in appropriate order.

2) A draft of certain Articles for the subscribers for the building of a bridge over the Lehigh were read, [agreed to according to Philadelphia?], and various among them determined and changed.

5) Brother Schropp and Beutel will contract with Brs. Luckenbach and Führer as soon as possible that the roads on the Brethren’s land, without delay, be put in good condition.

May 10, 1792

Present: Schweiniz, Schropp, Bonn, Beutel, Andreas, Böhler, Witke, Kunz, Horsfield.

At the reading of the last protocol it was remarked:

a) that the Single Sisters were accorded the requested road next to the Widow’s House, instead of the previously given new road.

b) that already a beginning of the repairs on the road over the Lehigh has been made, so that first the Philadelphia Road should be put in good order.

3) Because of planned Bridge project, the stone fence by the Crown Tavern meadow lot must be altered, and as yearly repairs are needed anyhow, it was proposed that the stones could be given over for the bridge, for compensation.–The College had nothing to object [to this plan] and believed the compensation, that from the side of the bridge building a new wooden-posted fence will now be put at the determined place, would be appropriate.

June 20, 1792

3) Various Brethren have complained on short trips from Bethlehem they must pay more for the Stage than before, and believe that it arises because the Stages are now made much luxurious.–it was observed that it is true that, for example, to go to Nazareth was 10/ before, but now costs 15/; that, however, the seats within [the coach] were not more expensive, before there were only 4 seats in a Stage, and now there are 6.

4) It was reported that today a Contract was made with Mr. Trux for procurment of the wood for the new bridge. That the same will also undertake the building, and that one can believe he will complete the same to satisfaction.

August 1, 1792

3) The bridge over the Monocacy in the Gemein Garden is dangerous.–It was inquired who is responsible to take care of this?

–Perhaps it would be best if the Gemein Diacony itself took care of it, and the Single Sisters’ and if Widows’ Diaconies and Pensioners School gave a proportional part of the costs.
