  the first Christmas Eve Vigils in Bethlehem; returned to Europe in 1742; d at Herrnhut in 1787.

  This ceremony was performed in Germantown, and is the first marriage recorded in the Bethlehem record.

June 27/July 8 ZANDER, Johann Wilhelm, b in Quedlingburg, Prussian
  Saxony; he emigrated in 1740, and was probably present at the first Christmas Eve Vigils in Bethlehem; ordained a deacon in 1742; missionary to Berbice, Guiana, South America; he returned to Europe in 1761, and served the Church in Holland until 1782; d in Zeist, Holland, 1782.
  MUELLER, Johanna Magdalena, dau.of Johann Peter, a shoemaker in Germantown; helped to organize the first school in Germantown; d at sea during the voyage from South America; she was survived by two children.

  Adam; was present at the first Christmas Eve Vigils in Bethlehem; from 1742-l785 missionary in St. Thomas, West Indies; d there 1785. He m. secondly, Verona Demuth; and thirdly, in 1767, Christina Richter Heckewelder
  HUMMEL 9 Johanna, d at sea in, Aug. 1742, during a. voyage to St. Thomas.

June 29/July 10 BRUCE, David, a native of Edinburg, Scotland; elder
  in Nazareth., and served in various congregations in the States; missionary to the Indians; d July 9, 1749 in Indian Mission field of Wechquadnach, N.Y.; a monument jointly to his memory and that of Joseph Powell was erected over his remains in 1859, in Sharon, Conn.
  BENNEZET, Judith, b 1710 in St. Quentain, France, a dau. of John Stephen of Philadelphia; d 1786 in Bethlehem.
  She was m. secondly, in 1750 by Count Zinzendorf , to Dr. John Frederick Otto, who d 1779 in Nazareth.

June 29/July 10 PYRLAEUS, Johann Christoph, b 1713, from Pausa,
  Saxony; came to Pennsylvania in 1741; and was probably present at the f irst Christmas Eve Vigils in Bethlehem; a missionary to the Indi- ans and an Indian scholar; returned to Europe in 1751 and served the Church in England until 1770; then returned to Germany, and d May 28, 1785 in Herrnhut.
  BENNEZET, Susanna, b 1717 in Wandsworth, Surrey, England, the youngest dau. of John Stephen of Philadelphia; d Oct. 1779 in Herrnhut.

June 29/July 10 FROELICH, Christian, b 1715 in Felsberg, Hesse Cassel;
  baker and confectioner in the family of Count Zinzendorf , and later one of the founders of Bethlehem; dug first grave on cemetery; mission- ary in St. Thomas, West Indies, and among the Indian; d Apr. 1776 in Bethlehem.
  ROBINS, Maria Esther, b in Pennsylvania; d in New York.

July 7/18 ESCHENBACH, Andreas, b in Naumburg; was
  probably present at the first Christmas Eve Vigils in Bethlehem; left the Church in 1747 and settled in Oley, Pa., where he d in 1763.
  He m. secondly, the widow Berndts, and they had issue, a daughter, Salome, b Apr. 2, 1763 in Oley, who married the blacksmith, George Huber, in 1790, in Bethlehem; also a daughter, Christine, b Dec. 30, 1760, who married Rev. Ludwig Huebener, in 1790, in Bethlehem.
  MINZER, Johanna Catharine, dau. of Benedict of New Hanover twp., Pa.

Sep. 3/14 BUETTNER, Gottlob, b in Silesia; came to Pennsylvania
  in 1741 , and was probably present at the first Christmas Eve Vigils in Bethlehem; missionary among the Indians in Shekomeko, where he d Feb. 23, 1745, aged 29; a monument to his memory was erected near Pine Plains, N.Y., in 1859.
  BECHTEL, Margaretha, b 1721 in Frankenthal in the Palatinate., the third dau. of Rev. John (of the Reformed Church in Germantown) and Mary Apollonia mn. Marret; d 1795 in Bethlehem.
 
She m. seoondly, Rev. John George Jungman, who served in the Indian missions in New York, Pennsylvania, and Ohio, and d 1808 in Bethlehem.

She m. first, Frederick Riedel, who d 1756 in Georgia; and m. secondly, Peter Rose, who taught school among the Creek Indians in Georgia and d there 1740.
