Bustleton, Philadelphia Co., Pa., a dau. of John and Lydia, mn. Rea
(the former a native of County Antrim, Ireland); and grand-daughter
of William McKinley and Mary, mn. Cunningham. Her maternal grandmother,
Elizabeth Montgomery (a cousin of James Montgomery, the poet), m.
Alexander Rea, of Gracehill, Ireland, and later of Columbia, S.C.,
and they had issue: John; Alexander; Ruth Montgomery, the wife of
Charles Joseph Levering (the latter the grandfather of Bishop J. Mortimer
Levering); and Lydia who m. Oct. 4, 1809, John McKinley and came to
the United States in Aug. 1811; the latter operated a wool-carding
and weaving mill in Allentown, and his wife taught school there.
Lydia McKinley, d Dec. 4, 1826; she had issue; William; Elizabeth
A; Lydia, the first wife of Dr. Albert Fricke, of Philadelphia; Samuel;
Henry and Edward. Elizabeth A. McKinley, at the age of 14 was taken
to be reared by Christian Brunner, of Nazareth; she was baptized on
Palm Sunday, 1831, in Nazareth, by Rev. J.C.Herman, her sponsor being
Mary Allen.
She m. first, Apr. 29, 1834 in Philadelphia, Christian Moltzen, a
sea captain, who d Aug. 2, 1837 at St. Thomas, W.I.; their two children
were bd in the Moravian Cemetery in Philadelphia, since abandoned;
in 1890 she moved to Bethlehem; d Oct. 1, 1903 in the Bell House,
and bd in Williamsport.

of Bishop William Henry (preacher in Bethlehem) and Anna Elisabeth,
mn. Kampmann; grandson of Jacob (who was consecrated a bishop in 1815);
and great grandson of Henry, (who was b Sep. 1722 in New York and
d. Jan. 25, 1785 in Bethlehem). Teacher in Nazareth Hall, 1841-1843;
and in the Salem Boys' School, 1844-1847; superintendent of Nazareth
Parochial School, 1850-1866; pastor in South Bethlehem , 1866-1874;
at Gnadenhuetten, Ohio, 1874-1882, and since that date at Fry's Valley;
consecrated a bishop in 1881; retired in 1890; d Dec. 5 , 1906 at
Gnadenhuetten. |
