Protocol of the College of Overseers - 1794
March 26, 1794 5) All the wood for the bridge has now arrived and has been brought to the river bank, thank God, without damage. October 1, 1794 3) From today forward, the bridge toll, which hitherto has been figured in the account of the ferry, will be put towards the Bridge Society; the Society will have its first meeting next Monday. December 3, 1794 Praes: Schweiniz, Schropp, Reich, Bonn, Witke, Andreas, Horsfield, Witke. 1) A new suggestion for the alteration of the road over the Lehigh, to make it completely on Bethlehems lands, which will be more closely examined and decided next Saturday by Brothers Horsfield and Beutel, makes all applications to the court and negotiations with neighbors therefore unnecessary. If it can happen without great damage, it would be wished that a road to Emaus can be made from this new road, and through this the steep mountain next to the Lehigh could be avoided. December 17, 1794 Praes: Klingsohr, Schweiniz, Shropp, Reich, Bonn, Witke, Beutel, Horsfield, Andreas, Weigand, Merk. 1) By the reading of the last protocol it was reported that: a) the new road over the Lehigh is already being worked, the lay of the mountain has made it necessary to direct the road through two neighbors woodlands.Because it is more to their advantage, they are fully satisfied with this.
